Forney ISD Board of Trustees Approve 2019-20 Attendance Zones

On Monday, Dec. 3, the Forney ISD Board of Trustees approved the attendance zone modification plan that will go into effect Aug. 2019.

During the month of November, Forney ISD presented drafts at two public information presentations and a public hearing in the boardroom. Throughout the process, the district received less than 90 comments via the paper and electronic feedback forms. After reviewing all feedback, the drafts were modified and presented for final approval.

“The plan approved by the board moves the north/south boundary to 740/Ridgecrest and impacts the fewest students possible, less than 10% of our overall student body.” said Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry. “Our administration team and the school board read and responded to every comment submitted by phone call or email. We took into account all comments and suggestions, so we can best serve all of our 11,185 students while accommodating fast growth.”

Students located in the impacted area north of Highway 80, but are now zoned in the south side feeder pattern for 2019-2020 are eligible for the following exceptions:

  • Current 6th graders (2018-2019) in the impacted area will have a one-time option to choose a secondary path. Requests for this transfer exemption must be submitted by March 1, 2019 to allow for appropriate staffing allocations. Transportation will be provided for students under this exemption.

  • Current 4th and 5th graders (2018-2019) in the impacted area with siblings at Brown MS and/or North Forney HS will have a one-time option to choose a secondary path (by choice of intermediate campus). Requests for this transfer exemption must be submitted by March 1, 2019 to allow for appropriate staffing allocations. Transportation will be provided for students under this exemption.

  • Current Kindergarten through 3rd grade students (2018-2019), who reside in Brookville Estates, will have a one-time option to request a transfer to Criswell Elementary. Students who choose this option will return to the North side feeder pattern for 5th-12th grade. Requests for this transfer exemption must be submitted by March 1, 2019 to allow for appropriate staffing allocations. Transportation will not be provided to Criswell for students under this exemption.

Students eligible for exceptions will receive notification via certified mail with more information on how to apply. Transfer Exemption requests for the secondary path must be submitted by March 1, 2019.
