Forney ISD Sets New Record with Pack the Pantry Food Drive
Forney ISD recently held the annual food drive to benefit the Forney Food Pantry and collected the highest donations ever in the history of the food drive.
The food drive, titled 'Pack the Pantry' began on Monday, Oct 29 and ran through Wednesday, Nov. 14. Food was donated at every campus in the District throughout the drive. The District set a new record this year with a total 42,123 donations breaking last year's record of 35,000!
The District also hosts a campus competition throughout the Pack the Pantry drive. The elementary schools compete with each to see who can raise the most donations and the secondary schools, (high schools and middle schools) compete to see who can raise the most donations.
This year's elementary school winner was Rhea Elementary School which had a total 15,430 donations! This is the second year in a row Rhea has won the competition. The school also earned the honor of being the school with the highest amount of donations of any school in the District!
Warren Middle won the secondary competition with a total of 4,917 donations. This was the first year that Warren Middle School has won the secondary competition.
The District also invited local businesses and organizations to join them in this year's Pack the Pantry food drive. Several businesses are also collecting donations all around Forney.
The Forney ISD Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadets visited every school on Thursday, Nov. 15 to pick up all of the donations and deliver them to the Forney Food Pantry, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday!
