Forney ISD Attendance Zone Modification Draft Plan
In August 2019, Rhea and Smith Elementary schools will reopen as 5th and 6th grade intermediate campuses. In addition to the shift to an intermediate model, rapid growth in Forney ISD of almost 10% in a single year is creating the need for a few additional changes in attendance zones.
“Growth in Forney ISD has been faster than our demographers predicted,” Forney ISD
Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry said. “We grew almost 10% this year alone, which means we welcomed almost 1,000 new students this year, and we’re experiencing much faster growth on the north side of Highway 80.”
“As a board, we wanted to do what’s best for all 11,150 plus students,” Board President Greg Pharris said. “We need to optimize space, accommodate rapid growth, look at natural lines within communities, and take into consideration impacting as few students and families as possible. We are trying to keep as many students as possible in their current feeder patterns and with their siblings.”
The DRAFT attendance zone modification plan was presented at the Forney ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Monday evening, Nov. 5.
Important items to note for current students:
All current Pre-K through 3rd grade dual language students will attend Criswell Elementary.
Current, Kindergarten-3rd grade students at Blackburn, Claybon, Henderson, Johnson, and Lewis will remain in their current feeder pattern.
All current 4th and 5th grade dual language students will attend either Rhea or Smith under the new intermediate model.
All 4th & 5th grade students will attend either Rhea or Smith under the new intermediate model.
Under the draft plan, no current 6th grade student would be required to change their secondary feeder pattern. The majority of 6th graders will remain in their current feeder pattern. The students in the modified zone will be given a one-time opportunity in the spring of 2019 to choose their feeder pattern.
Current, 7th-12th grade students will remain in their current feeder pattern.
