Forney ISD Hosts 2nd Annual STEAMfest
Forney ISD will host their 2nd Annual STEAMfest event on Monday, Aug. 13, 4:30-8:30 p.m. at North Forney High School. The event attracts thousands of children and adults from Forney and surrounding communities where they enjoy hands-on games and activities while learning more about Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). The event is free and open to the public.
“STEAMfest is a fun community event that allows for exploration and creativity for the whole family,” said Director of Future Ready Assessment and Guidance Robyn Pearce. “Our first STEAMfest last year was such a tremendous success we had parents and students asking when the next one would be!”
With more than 50 hands-on exhibits, including slime time, a water balloon slingshot, eSports, a STEM Mobile Lab, kinetic sand, Lego creations, live performances, face painting, a petting zoo and and more, STEAMfest will be an event you don’t want to miss. Attendees are asked to share their photos on social media using #ForneySTEAMfest.
“This year’s STEAMfest will feature a number of intriguing, fun and exciting educational events and activities that will thrill and entertain children of all ages,” Forney ISD Community Partnership Coordinator Dana Curry said. “Attendees can participate in a virtual reality experience and then travel into outer space in the Orbit Earth Expo presented by the Texas A&M Eco-Resilience NPD Program and Spark Point Innovation. They can also try their hand at solving a giant puzzle cube!”
Local emergency services teams will also be landing helicopters for the community to climb aboard to see what it looks like behind the controls.
Some of the corporations and businesses that will have booths, games and activities at this year’s event include CareFlite, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, the Dallas Zoo, the City of Forney Fire and Police Department, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Texas A&M, the Boy Scouts, the Forney Arts Council and the Forney Education Foundation.
“STEAMfest is an exciting, fun-filled event that really brings out the kid in all of us,” said Forney ISD Superintendent Dr. Justin Terry. “My kids had so much fun at last year’s event! It is truly amazing what these corporations, businesses and organizations bring to the event. You’re having so much fun that you don’t even realize that the games and activities are all centered around science, technology, engineering, the arts and math! It’s a fun, family outing for everyone!”
In addition to games and activities, a number of food trucks will also be at STEAMfest to make the event a complete family outing. Attendees can choose between Fire Wagon Bar-b-que, The Pink Company Food Truck, Mama Valentina’s Food Truck, Rock and Roll Taco, Rockin Ricks, and 4M Concession food truck. Kona Ice and Frosty Hut will also be on site to help visitors cool down after enjoying the fun and games at the event.
The 2nd Annual Forney ISD STEAMfest will be held on Monday, Aug. 13 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at North Forney High School, 6170 Falcon Way in Forney.
