Forney ISD Announces District Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year

Forney ISD announced the 2017-18 District Teachers of the Year at the May 14 Forney ISD Board of Trustees regular monthly board meeting. The District's Elementary Teacher of the Year is Lecia Garner from Henderson Elementary School and the District's Secondary Teacher of the Year is Stacey Wetzel from Warren Middle School.

Garner is a sixth grade math teacher at Henderson Elementary. She has high expectations for her students and herself in all areas of life. Mrs. Garner implements a small group instructional model in each rotation of classes that allows her to meet each child where he or she is and provide immediate feedback on the work completed. She also fully implements technology in her classroom in order to maximize time learning, individualize instruction and provide immediate feedback.

Wetzel teaches English and English as a Second Language (ESL) at Warren Middle School. She is a positive role model for both students and teachers. She always puts others needs before her own. She has a contagious positive attitude and knows her students needs and meets them where they are.

Mrs. Wetzel is very patient with her team and staff members that she mentors. She serves on several committees including Culture of Excellence, Special Ed Team Lead, the District Leadership Team and the Literature Committee.

The District Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year were selected from all of the campus teachers of the year which were announced in April. All of the candidates met with the District Teacher of the Year selection committees who interviewed each candidate.

Garner and Wetzel will move on to the Region 10 Teacher of the Year competition which will be announced in August of this year.

Congratulations to all of the Forney ISD Campus Teachers of the Year and to Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Wetzel for being named the District Teachers of the Year!
