Woods Named New Forney High School Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach
Forney ISD announced the hiring of a new Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach for Forney High School on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Aaron Woods with Waxahachie High School in Waxahachie, Texas was named the new Coordinator and Head Football Coach for Forney High School. Woods replaces Kevin Rush who announced his retirement at the end of the 2017-18 school year.
Woods was most recently the Offensive Coordinator at Waxahachie High School. He also served at the team’s Interim Head Coach following the 2017 season. He helped lead the 5A Indians to an 8-5 record last season and to the 5A Regional Finals. Prior to joining Waxahachie, Woods was the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator for Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, Texas. He first joined the Cedar Hill coaching staff in 2003. While at Cedar Hill, Woods served in a number of Assistant Coaching positions including Offensive Line Coach, Running Backs Coach and Special Teams Coach. During his tenure with Cedar Hill, the Longhorns won three 5A State Championships, six District Championships and advanced to the state playoffs every year since 2005.
“My time at Cedar Hill and Waxahachie has helped prepare me for this opportunity to lead Forney High,” Woods said. “It is a very exciting time of change for the Jackrabbits and I look forward to building a successful program that all Jackrabbit fans will be proud of.”
More than 90 individuals applied for the Forney High School Athletic Coordinator, Head Football coaching position. The District conducted a series of four rounds of interviews in evaluating all applicants for the position. Parents, alumni, teachers, campus and district administrators participated in the evaluation process. Woods was selected based on his success on the sideline, his character program and his positive and enthusiastic leadership.
Woods received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas and earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He earned his principal certification in 2011.
