Forney ISD Swim and Dive Athletes Qualify for State Championship Meet
Swim and Dive Team student athletes from Forney High School and North Forney High School recently competed in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Swim and Dive Regional Championships on Saturday, Feb. 3 and finished in one of the top three spots in the region. Those athletes now advance to the UIL State Swim and Dive Championships which will be held Friday, Feb. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center located at The University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
For the first time in the history of the FHS and NFHS Swim and Dive program, swimmers and divers are headed to the state championships. The Forney High School boys 400 meter free relay team captured second place with a time of 3:35.93, a full 6.5 seconds in front of third place. Members of the FHS 400 Meter Free Relay Team include Ben Santibanez, Clay Henson, Jon Lindemann, Jorge Ochoa and Stefano Frau.
Hasheem Van Bolden, a diver for the FHS Swim and Dive Team will also compete in the one meter dive competition at the state championships. Bolden finished third in the boys one meter dive competition at the regional meet.
North Forney High School also had swim and dive team members finish high in the regional meet and advance to the UIL State Swim and Dive Championships as well. Jeff Sharp captured first place in the boys one meter dive competition. Alyssa Miller also qualified for the state meet in the girls one meter dive competition by finishing third in the one meter girls dive competition at the regional meet.
