Forney ISD High School Marching Bands Advance to 5A Area C Finals
The Forney High School and North Forney High School Marching Bands both recently competed in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Area C Marching Band Competition on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium in Mesquite, Texas and advanced to the finals. The Area C competition is the final competition for marching bands to advance to the State Marching Band Competition. The State Marching Band competition is held every other year for Class 5A marching bands.
High school marching bands in Area C all performed in a preliminary round to start the competition on Saturday, Oct. 28. For a band to advance to the finals in the 5A Area C competition, the band had to place in the top ten of all bands. Both Forney High School and North Forney High School Marching Bands finished in the Top 10 in the preliminary rounds advancing to the finals.
In the finals held later that day, Forney High School finished in second place and North Forney High School finished in seventh place. The top five marching bands advance to the State Marching Band competition.
Forney High School advanced to the UIL State Marching Band Competition which will be held on Nov. 8 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The band will perform in the preliminary round at 8:15 a.m. to try and qualify for the state finals which will be held later that day. This will be the fifth straight time Forney High School has advanced to the state competition.
It was the fourth time that North Forney had advanced to the Area C competition and second time they had advanced to the finals. The North Forney High School Marching Band is under the direction of Michael Kilgore, Kara Wallace, Jim Gist, Megan Garza, Kristin May, Katie Navarro and drumline instructor is Jordan Ferguson.
The Forney High School Band is under the direction of Mark Poole, Jarod Garcia, Riley Warren, Cody Russell, Wes Hughes, Casey Snead and drumline instructor is Shannon Jacobs.
