Forney ISD Announces New Principal for the Forney Academic Center
The Forney Independent School District (ISD) recently announced the appointment of a new principal for the Forney Academic Center (FAC), the District’s Alternative Learning Center. Joshua Garcia has been named the new principal for the FAC, replacing Bryan Sharkey who recently accepted an assistant principal position at Allen High School in the Allen Independent School District in Allen, Texas.
Garcia comes to Forney ISD from the Mesquite Independent School District in Mesquite, Texas where he was an Assistant Principal at North Mesquite High School for seven years. He has 11 years of experience in teaching and administration in public education. Prior to being named an Assistant Principal at North Mesquite High School, he was an 8th grade Social Studies Teacher at McDonald Middle School in Mesquite ISD and a high school Social Studies Teacher at the Mesquite ISD District Alternative Learning Center (DAEP).
“I am very excited about the opportunity to join the staff and students of the Forney Academic Center as well as an outstanding district such as Forney ISD,” Garcia said. “There are so many incredible and innovative things happening in Forney ISD right now! It is a very exciting time to be working in such an energized and future focused school district!”
Garcia received his Bachelor’s Degree in History with a Minor in Sociology from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas and earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University Commerce in Commerce, Texas. He is currently a Doctorate of Education Administration Candidate at Texas A&M University in Commerce in the process of completing his dissertation.
Garcia holds certifications in Social Studies and Texas Public Education Administration.
The Forney Academic Center is an Alternative Learning Center comprised of a number of educational programs including the District’s Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) and GOALS program. The FAC supports all grade levels in Forney ISD.
