Forney ISD Announces New Student and Community Engagement Program
Forney ISD is dedicated to creating and building a strong partnership and working relationship with students, parents, local businesses and the community to increase opportunities for students and to enhance the education programs in the District. As a result, the District has created a new Student and Community Engagement program designed to enlist parental and community involvement in the educational programs as well as access support services for education and training programs and opportunities. In addition, the program will work with parents to identify and develop processes and programs for students to achieve their goals while developing and fostering a positive relationship with students, parents and the community.
The Student and Community Engagement Program was created from responses and information received through several parent, student and community surveys. These surveys were conducted over the past three years to gather information from parents and community members in an effort to gather extensive data and information which helped shape the Forney Focus 2.0 educational model. The responses received through the program clearly defined that parents and community members want to be more involved in the educational process and with Forney ISD.
Heading up the new Student and Community Engagement Program is Dr. Stephen Chapman. Dr. Chapman has extensive experience at all grade levels having served Forney ISD as the Principal at both Henderson Elementary School and Brown Middle School as well as working with high school students as an Assistant Principal at Rockwall High School in Rockwall, Texas. His Central Administration experience includes serving Bland ISD in Merit, Texas as the District’s Assistant Superintendent of Technology.
“I am very excited about this program and the incredible opportunity to create and build a relationship with the students, parents and the community to enhance the educational programs in the District,” Dr. Chapman stated. “I look forward to this new adventure to serve the Forney Independent School District and the Forney community.”
Dr. Chapman received his Bachelor’s Degree in History and English from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas and earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce, in Commerce, Texas. He earned his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
“The Student and Community Engagement program is a key component of the District’s Forney Focus 2.0 agenda,” Forney ISD Superintendent Suzanne McWilliams noted. “Our goal with the program is to develop strong relationships between the District, students, parents and the community in an effort to create and enhance the outstanding educational programs we have here in Forney ISD. Dr. Chapman will do a tremendous job creating and building this program and we look forward to the great working relationships we will develop with parents and the community!”
