Forney ISD Fine Arts Director Awarded Helping Hands Award by Forney Chamber of Commerce
Forney ISD Fine Arts Director, Mario Luna, was awarded the Forney Chamber of Commerce Helping Hands Award at the Forney Chamber Luncheon on Thursday, March 2. The award is presented annually to a compassionate individual or individuals who selflessly dedicate their time and efforts for the benefit of others.
Luna has served the Forney Independent School District as the Fine Arts Director for three years. Prior to being named the Fine Arts Director for the District, he was an Assistant Band Director for the Forney High School Band.
In awarding Luna with the award, Forney Chamber of Commerce Board Director Mary Elsbecker stated that Luna "coordinates and promotes concerts, performances, artistic displays and competitions for our children. His efforts allow individuals to witness and experience the incredible artistic talents of our Forney children, not only in Forney, but in all of North Texas, across the state and even nationwide. He is dedicated to being at every event, whether it’s a band concert, an art display, or competitions all over the state, making sure everything runs smoothly."
Elsbecker added, "In addition, he goes above and beyond to support events at the Spellman Amphitheatre, at Christmas on Main, with the Unity Bowl Parade, with Veteran’s Programs and the Independence Day Celebration just to name a few. He coordinates all of the Chamber of Commerce’s entertainment when choirs or bands are needed to perform, giving different schools a chance to perform at events such as monthly meetings, annual banquets and business expos. He also works with local businesses, coordinating performances for their functions. Currently, he volunteers his time as the co-chair of the Forney Arts Council and works tirelessly to bring more awareness of the arts from groups and individuals outside of the community into Forney."
