New Board of Trustees

Newly elected members of the Forney ISD Board of Trustees were sworn in during the board’s June 2016 regular monthly meeting. The new members, Christopher Andrews and Chad Johnson, were elected to the board during the May 2016 elections and were sworn into office with Keith Bell, a current member of the board who ran unopposed and won his reelection bid in May.

Bell begins his 19th year on the Board of Trustees this year. Throughout his tenure on the board, Bell has served as Board Secretary, Board Vice President and Board President. He held the position of Board President during the 2015-2016 school year. He holds Position 6 on the Forney ISD Board of Trustees.

Andrews is beginning his first year on the Forney ISD Board of Trustees this year. He won his election bid for Position 7 on the board in May. He has been a resident of Forney since 1997.

Johnson is also beginning his first year as a member of the Board of Trustees after winning his election to Position 5 in the May election. Johnson has lived in Forney for nine years.

Forney ISD Board of Trustee members hold three year terms on the Board. Andrews, Bell and Johnson will all be up for reelection in 2019.

In addition to the new and reelected members being sworn in at the regular board meeting, the Board also held officer elections. The board nominated and unanimously approved Keith Bell to hold the office of President of the Board for the 2016-2017 school year and Greg Pharris to serve as Vice President of the Board for the upcoming school year. Cheryl Mason was nominated and unanimously approved as the Board’s Secretary for the upcoming school year. Mason is currently serving her first term on the board after winning her election bid to Position 1 in 2014.

The seven-member Forney ISD Board of Trustees is the district's policy-making body. While it is comprised of individuals, it acts officially only as a group. The FISD Board works with the Superintendent and staff to set the direction of the school district with the education and well-being of school children as its primary focus. The Board members are elected by position by the citizens in FISD to three-year, staggered terms. They not only represent the public, but also translate the needs of students into policies, goals and strategies that reflect the standards and values of the community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: hiring and evaluating the Superintendent; approving the district's budget; establishing goals and evaluating results; levying taxes and issuing bonds and ordering elections.
